Water, water everywhere

Could the person who inadvertantly flicked the switch to “Winter Weather” a few weeks early, please unflick it?

Grrr. I’ve been lulled into a false sense of security by the weather of late. The salad that I bought just yesterday at Waitrose has been forsaken in favour of something a little more warming. Like curry. And I’m sorely tempted to nip over to storage and dig out all the fleece jackets I put there when decluttering the house pre-viewings. The weather is hardly going to encourage in the punters, is it? Meanwhile, I’m desperate to sell because the house I have fallen in love with is still on the market. I want the utility room, the lovely fireplaces, the large bedrooms and even larger garden. Somebody please buy my house so we can move!

With the weather forcing me indoors, I have spent the day doing all the dull stuff like ironing (good because good weather meant that I got carried away with laundry because I knew it would dry quickly.) I ran the washing machine on high and with a good glug of vinegar to clean it out. I got round to cleaning the carpets- the design flaw with wet weather and dog is the resulting wet dog, whose favourite activity post-dousing is to run insane circuits of the house until she feels dry. I’m even getting around to my carpet edges- my nan would be so proud. And I have been idling time away on the interweb looking up “Change of Address” cards. Getting ahead of myself? I have come across a couple of genius websites:

http://www.moveme.com/- which gives you a precise timetable of things to do pre-move. There’s alittle calendar and everything. All you need is a moving date!

http://www.iammoving.com/- goes a step further. It’s a free UK change of address service. All you do is pick those organisations that apply to you from their extensive list, fill in your details and they contact them on your behalf. Easy-peasy.

ballisticblue have moving cards that you can personalise. You can even upload all your addresses and they will pint the envelopes for you. Great designs to choose from and not outrageously expensive.

So, should I get the green light, I am in good stead. I’ve started a master spreadsheet of people to contact about our move. I had no idea how long it would be when I started, but by the time you’ve got banks, building societies, insurance companies, loyalty cards, utilities and miscellaneous, I’m up to two pages. And that’s before I hit the address book. So it’s a good thing I started early. So the bad weather turned out to be quite useful after all. Who’d have thought it?
