Oldies

Radio 2 is my station of choice. It has a good selection of music a diverse range of presenters and often makes me laugh. It’s a good friend when I am cooking, cleaning or getting frustrated because the dog doesn’t speak Kelly. Recently I have been trying to come up with a list of Oldies for the Steve Wright show- inspired by recent selections, I thought it would be a doddle. 20/30 songs. Easy. And thinking of 20 or so songs that you like is easy. But then you start thinking of others, you hear great tracks on the radio and think “How could I have forgotten this?” so onto the list it goes and before you know it, you are staring 50 tunes in the face.

So I thought I’d change tack and look at it as a sort of soundtrack to my life. Fairly straightforward, but are they really my all time favourite tunes? Currently I have a list of about 45 songs, amalgamated from the two, and am trying to narrow it down. But for every song I take off the list, I put another one on. I kid you not, I am almost in tears in a can’t-remember-the-answer-to-the-exam-question kind of a way.

Of course, the tears are down to the drugs I am on- they made me cry at the final of Crufts, so I think we can safely assume I am only a step away from the madhouse. Medical research has a lot to answer for. Those who know me will say that I am emotional at the best of times. The ‘oosband would go a little further, but he’s married to me now and undoubtedly would like to make it to old age, so won’t. Clomid has exponentially increased the drama quotient in our house! For the week that I take it, I cry about everything, am so tired I can barely see come four pm and am so sensitive that the dog licking my feet (it’s a fetish thing- for the dog that is) has me clawing at the ceiling. It had better bloody be worth it.
